Africa Centre is excited to have been selected to provide one of 22 Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Centres across Alberta. To be selected as an Early Learning and Child Care Centre, we were tasked with making improvements that go above and beyond other child care programs. Our new childcare program will use an evidence-based *child care curriculum framework. This program was developed by early learning and child care educators, early childhood academics, government, and professionals working in related fields. It is designed to foster improved early childhood development outcomes so your child can get the best possible start to life.
The Centre offers various programs for children of all ages. Some of the programs currently available are: After School Activities (Homework Club, Tutoring and Mentoring), Recreational and Sport Activities, Spring Break All Day Camp and Summer Break All Day Camp. Your family is important at our Centre. We know that parents are the most important people in their child’s life, so our staff work as partners with parents to provide the best care possible. Our staff are trained and certified through programs including child development and early childhood education. We give the children a chance to make friends, learn about themselves and about the world around them.
The Community Youth Mentorship Program arose out of a conference held in October 2015 hosted by the Youth Empowerment Group (YEG), an initiative that works towards empowering and sharing voices of young peoples of African and Afro-Caribbean descent. The conference brought together over 300 young people to address systemic issues and barriers affecting ethno-cultural youth within Alberta.
