Free Carpentry Training for Newcomers: Applications Open!

August 1, 2025 @ 8:00 am - October 5, 2025 @ 5:00 pm
Free

Applications are open for NorQuest’s new Trades Pathways for Newcomers – Carpentry program, in partnership with CLAC Career Development College.

Want to become a carpenter but not sure where to start?
Build your carpentry skills and improve your English for the job site. This free program for newcomers helps you get ready to become a carpenter apprentice in Alberta.

This program gets you started as a carpenter in Alberta. After you finish, you will know enough about carpentry to take your first-year Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) carpenter exams.
If you pass your carpentry exams and complete enough hours working as a carpenter with an employer, you will be credited for your first-year carpenter apprenticeship. You will also receive five certifications during your studies.

This fully-funded, 19-week program is for those who

• Are immigrants to Canada (PR, Convention refugee, or Naturalized citizen)
• Do not have a job or are working very little, and you are not receiving EI (Employment Insurance).
• Have a reliable way to get to class, work placements, and job sites that are hard to get to by bus.
• Are interested in working in carpentry but are having a hard time getting started.
• Want help with their English language skills to work in the construction trades.
• Meet all the language (CLB5+) and academic entrance requirements for this program (For those without the AIT trades entrance exam, they may opt to take a program entrance exam)
