Elder abuse is widely underreported in immigrant communities due to stigma, cultural expectations, fear of authorities, and dependence on family members. For African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) seniors, financial abuse, emotional manipulation, neglect, and fraud are key concerns. Many seniors also struggle to understand their rights or the supports available to them in Canada.
The program provides:
-
Safe, culturally grounded conversations about different forms of abuse.
-
Workshops on financial protection and fraud awareness.
-
Assistance navigating legal and social supports.
-
Advocacy during difficult family or system interactions.
-
Community-wide awareness through brochures, campaigns, and partnerships.
The goal is empowerment, safety, and giving seniors the confidence to seek help when needed.
