IPV Prevention Project Activities

Healthy Relationship for Youth

Youth sessions promoted healthy relationships through activities emphasizing communication, self-esteem, and respect. Topics included social media's impact, family expectations, and gender roles. Key aspects covered: setting boundaries, recognizing signs of unhealthy relationships, and conflict resolution strategies.

Community Engagement

We engaged the community in open dialogue about Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and sought feedback on our project and anti-IPV strategies. Sessions featured active roundtable discussions, including a psychologist and a faith-based leader to discuss the impact of IPV and dispel misconceptions.

Wise Women

The sessions educated the community about financial security. Topics included budgeting and recognizing financial abuse in relationships. Our goal was to empower individuals to make informed decisions and prevent Intimate Partner Violence related to financial vulnerabilities.

Financial Literacy

Annual Events

International Women's Day

Themed "Walk With Her," the celebration aimed to support racialized women and girls for gender equality. Africa Centre's Enhancing Gender Equity program and Ladies in the Family Foundation (LITFF) collaborated for the 2023 International Women’s Day. The event engaged, celebrated achievements, and raised awareness on relevant issues, emphasizing resilience, strengths, and diversity.

Obinokor Talks

Africa Centre, in partnership with the Pan African Collaboration for Excellence (PACE),  hosted the first annual Obinokor Talks. This special event highlighted the tradition of female elders, called Obinokors, from Igboland in Nigeria. Dr. Philomina Okeke-Ihejirika's talk aimed to remind everyone about the valuable wisdom in the Obinokor tradition, often overlooked by leaders and service providers within IPV sectors.
