CAPACITY BUILDING SUPPORT
SBCCI
Overview and Funding Recipients
The Supporting Black Canadian Communities Initiative (SBCCI) was created by the Federal government through Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to help increase the capacity of Black-led grassroots and not-for-profit organizations that serve Black communities in Canada.
With the goal of increasing access to funding and enhancing organizational capacity, the four intermediaries, on behalf of the federal government, have collectively distributed a total of 51 million dollars in grant funding to Black-led community organizations nationwide over the past three years.
Overview
Africa Centre was selected as one of the four intermediary organizations to deliver the SBCCI program. Using an intermediary delivery model, the initiative aims to provide funding through a fair and transparent process, and otherwise support Black-led non-profit organizations across Canada. The program consists of two streams tailored to specific organizational needs.
1. Providing funding through a fair and transparent process, and otherwise support Black community organizations across Canada to increase their organizational capacity
2. Support the funded organization and work with partner organizations towards improving the capacity of the Black-led community organizations, thus enhancing the vitality of the sector and building community capacity.
3. Address and be inclusive of diverse Black communities across Canada.
